Race For JusticeThe Race for Justice is an annual fundraiser benefitting the Tooele County Children’s Justice Center (CJC), whose mission it is to serve and protect abused children in the Tooele area.

The Race for Justice is a great ride for bicycling enthusiasts that are looking for early-season training, a challenge for intermediate cyclists, the qualifying 50-mile bike ride for Boy Scouts looking to earn their Cycling merit badge, and a great way to view the beauty of both Tooele Valley and Rush Valley to the south – away from the heavy traffic, smog, and noise of the Wasatch Front.

The course is a large loop that begins at the LDSwardhouse in Stockton going north along SR36 through Tooele, then along Coleman Ave., breaking westward on Utah Ave./SR112 towards Grantsville, west along Grantsville’s Main Street/SR138, until heading south on West Street/Mormon Trail until it meets SR199 in Rush Valley/Clover. Then the course turns eastward to meet back up with SR36, heading north and passing the original start line, until finishing at the Tooele Valley Masonic Lodge at the southern part of Tooele City. The total distance is 52.0 miles.

The course is also fairly gradual in the incline for the most part. However, at the beginning and near the end, participants will climb the south face of the ‘Stockton Sandbar’. From there, the course is a fairly quick decent towards Grantsville/Masonic Lodge. Once in Grantsville, the course again rises in elevation – though gradual – on the west side of “South Mountain. Then it decends again until getting back to SR36, east of Rush Valley/Clover, again climbing softly until the “Stockton Sandbar”.

We are currently working on the final details of the watering stations and pitstops. We are seeking additional sponsors for portapotties along the route, but, for example, Grantsville City has offered use of their fire station for a hydration station and pitstoparea. It is right on Main Street and will allow racers a quick stop without deviating from the course.

There are prizes/medals for various brackets of racers, drawings for door prizes, and event t-shirts for participants. There is also a “Finish Line BBQ” at the Masonic Lodge for racers, volunteers, sponsors, and anyone who’d like to purchase a ticket for the BBQ to support the cause but have no interest in the race.

The BBQ will feature hamburgers and hotdogs, side dishes, chips, drinks, and other calorie-replenishing goodness!

The Google map to the right incorrectly shows the finish line as much, much further up Settlement Canyon Road than it is. We’ve contacted Googel to get this corrected and hope that they’ll do so prior to the race. However, the Masonic Lodge is directly at the interection of SR36/Main Street, Tooele and Settlement Canyon Road. It’s the tan building with the flagpole out front and a blue Square & Compass on the front, up high. Riders will pass this location just a few miles in to the course. Participants can park at the lodge/finish line, at the Stockton wardhouse, or the empty parking lot across from the church.
