Arbor Day Celebrations
National Arbor Day is a celebration dedicated to the planting of trees on the last Friday in April. This year, Arbor Day will be held on April 26 in conjunction with events planned by the Tooele County Master Gardeners. The public is invited to attend these events being held in their communities.
The Tooele City event will be hosted by Speirs Farm, 394 W 200 S, at 6:00 P.M. Each year trees are planted honoring past mayors. This year the three mayors selected for this honor are James A. Bevan, Peter Van Otten and Frank H. Bowman. Part of the celebration will include the reading of selected events from the lives of these mayors. For more information about this event, contact Barbara Barlow at 882-0006.
Grantsville Arbor Day is sponsoring a 5th grade elementary school poster contest. The winners will be awarded with a large tree by Mayor Brent Marshall who will later sign the Arbor Day Proclamation at the Grantsville City Hall. Trees will then be distributed to celebrate the 9th annual Tree City USA. For more information, contact Gary Fawson at 884-1936.
Stockton is including their Arbor Day events with the start of their 150th Founders Day Celebration at the Stockton LDS Church on April 27 at 5:00 P.M. For more information, contact Kaye Holien at 882-2340.
