A BRAVE TALE! Starring… YOU!
All of us at Up With Kids in Utah are excited to welcome our accomplished past performers and our talented new students to our 28th exciting season of adventures! Some say our destiny is tied to the land, as much a part of us as we are of it. Others say our fate is woven together like cloth, so that one’s destiny intertwines with many others. We say it is your destiny to join our happy clan for this year’s production of “BRAVE TALES… starring… YOU!”
Inspiring Curriculum
The Up With Kids children’s theatre award winning curriculum is always “G-Rated” and family friendly. The activities in which we learn about singing, dancing and acting are age-appropriate, uplifting and inspiring. We celebrate family values! We strive to bring out the best in ourselves and in our students in every aspect of our program!
Singing, Dancing, and Acting
Have you ever dreamed of being a Musical Theater STAR on stage? This is the year to change your fate! Join our clan and seek your destiny! Together we will “Fly, Chase the Wind and Touch the Sky!”
Perhaps it will be your destiny to don a wee plaid kilt and romp with the other small bairns through the bonny banks and braes of Scotland, terrorizing the elders at the village picnic, belting out “Food, Glorious Food!” After a myriad of other mischievous acts, you will swipe and gobble the enchanted scones, and will be magically transformed into tiny terrible bears dancing away to “The Teddy Bear Picnic.”
Perhaps your fate will be to join in as young Merida and her bonny companions roll eyes in defiance of Queen Elinor’s efforts to teach you to be proper ladies, dreaming of the day when no one will be able to tell you what to do as you sing “Oh I Just Can’t Wait to be Queen!”
You could sparkle as a tiny Will ’O The Wisp leading Princess Merida through the wilderness, or frighten her by dancing with the other spooky Monsters to the tune of “Thriller”.
You’ll put on a stellar performance as one of the brave young Scottish Lords to compete in the Highland Games! Or act out Super Heroes teaching the shy young maidens to grow into courageous and powerful Warrior Princesses with “Sister, I’ll Make a Man Out Of You!” As Great Heroes, you’ll “Seize the Day!”, restore the wee bears to their proper mischevous forms and bring about the happiest ending ever!
And finally imagine your exhillaration as you join the entire cast for the curtain call in sign language singing “Touch the Sky!” Take a bow because now you really are a STAR!
Cultural Learning Experiences
We’re giving this year’s magical extravaganza a Scottish flare and melodramatic characters! The heroine! The hero! The villain! The sidekick! The chase! We will continue to develop our singing voices with the playful, hands on musical exercises from our Up With Kids Vocal Method. We’ll practice our acting skills in fun drama games every week and then show them off in our popular performances in May! As always, every one of our talented students will star as a unique named character with speaking lines and will shine in the spectacular songs and dances in our show.
Training
As always, we will be including fabulous cultural learning experiences in our year’s phenomenal curriculum. We’ll learn about Aesop and Shakespeare and the classical elements that make up our rich literary heritage! It’s going to be fun to get better acquainted with the life and works of some great Scottish writers and composers such as Robert Burns and Robert Louis Stevenson. By popular demand we are including even more fun movement activities with classical music, including Ponchielli’s “Dance of the Hours” as the wee brats’ mischief music, Beethoven’s “Battle Symphony” as background for the tiny bears’ enchantment, Vivaldi’s “Spring” as the background for our sprites in the forest, and of course “Scotland the Brave”. And just for “kicks”, we’ll be learning a traditional Scottish Folk Dance- “The Dashing White Sergeant!”
You have the courage to change your fate! Sign up now and join us for another great ALL-STAR production! UP WITH KIDS!
