I am committed to the Tooele Children’s Justice Center because they are COMMITTED to doing whatever it takes to help abuse victims and their families. A lot of people probably don’t know how much the Center does for its community. It is a silent provider. I would like to share a brief story that has secured the Children’s Justice Center a place in my heart.

In 2005, I had the horrific experience of being a part of investigation of a baby’s murder. The parents were arrested and since convicted of this heinous crime. The baby had no other family and there was no clear path to lay this baby peacefully to rest. My supervisor put in one call to the CJC and within a short time frame, the Center used its community connections and volunteers and put together a funeral and proper burial for this child. The Tooele City Police Department, DCFS and CJC staff attended and spoke at this child’s funeral and honored and respected his short life.

I don’t know of very many social services facilities that have such a far reaching scope of services. The Center provides services above and beyond the call of duty. I have seen what they do for our children and their families and I am proud to fundraise with the Friends Board on the Center’s behalf.

I got involved in the Tooele Children’s Justice Center because I believe in being involved in the community. The CJC is one organization that helps out children and I don’t know of a better group to help out than children. We need the CJC in the community because of what they do.

Serving on the Friends Board of the CJC has given me the opportunity to support the children’s justice process by raising money to aid the CJC. Fund-raising has helped me get involved in my community and meet new people, which has been fun and rewarding. Volunteering for the Friends is a way for all of us contributing in a supporting role of the healing journey of child abuse victims to know that our efforts make a difference.
