Tooele County’s close ties to mining—both past and present—are shown with pride at the Oquirrh Mountain Mining Center. Interpretive displays and artifacts tell the story of how the area geologically evolved into a major producer of gold, silver and lead. Learn about how Ophir, Jacob City, Mercur and Gold Hill diverted thousands of miners who were originally bound for California’s gold fields to strike it rich. An educational video and archival photographs reveal the life challenges miners and their families endured. For more information or tours, please call (435) 843-4020. How to get there: The museum is located five miles northwest of Tooele City inside Deseret Peak Complex at 2930 SR-112. After entering gates and passing the information booth, follow signs back to the museum.
